We are currently recruiting an MEP Lead to join a Life Sciences business unit based in Cork. This is a senior technical leadership role with responsibility for the strategic management and delivery of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) operations across multiple projects.


Role Overview

Reporting to the Building Services Director, the MEP Lead is responsible for providing strategic direction, technical leadership, and operational oversight of all MEP activities within the business unit. The role ensures alignment with company standards, client expectations, and regulatory requirements while driving performance, efficiency, sustainability, and innovation across Life Sciences projects.

The MEP Lead plays a key role in developing capability within the MEP teams, supporting project delivery excellence, and ensuring consistent, high-quality outcomes from design through commissioning and handover.


Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

Develop and implement the MEP strategy for the business unit in line with corporate and project objectives

Lead, mentor, and develop MEP teams across multiple projects to ensure capability, consistency, and high performance

Promote a culture of innovation, efficiency, and continuous improvement within MEP delivery

Provide senior technical leadership and direction to project and site-based teams


Project Oversight

Ensure consistent delivery of MEP works to agreed quality, budget, and programme targets

Oversee the design development, installation, testing, and commissioning of MEP systems across Life Sciences projects

Provide expert guidance on complex technical issues, risk mitigation, and problem-solving

Support project teams in achieving successful project completion and client satisfaction


Stakeholder Engagement

Act as the senior point of contact for clients, consultants, regulators, and internal stakeholders on MEP matters

Collaborate closely with project teams, commercial functions, and supply chain partners to enhance delivery performance

Represent the business unit in strategic discussions, governance forums, and senior leadership meetings


Governance, Quality, and Compliance

Ensure all MEP activities comply with statutory regulations, ISO standards, and company procedures

Monitor quality assurance, risk management, commissioning, and handover processes across projects

Support lessons-learned initiatives, best practice sharing, and standardisation across the business unit

Ensure robust governance controls are in place for MEP delivery


Continuous Improvement and Innovation

Promote the adoption of digital tools, BIM, and advanced MEP technologies

Drive sustainability, energy efficiency, and innovation in MEP design and construction

Share technical knowledge and expertise across the business unit and wider organisation

Support continuous improvement initiatives aligned with Life Sciences and regulated environments


Candidate Requirements

Degree-qualified in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Building Services, or a related discipline

Proven experience in a senior MEP leadership role within a Tier 1 contractor or complex construction environment

Strong background in Life Sciences, pharmaceutical, data centre, or other highly regulated sectors

Professional accreditation or membership of a relevant body (CIBSE, IET, Engineers Ireland, or equivalent)

Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and influence stakeholders at senior level

Excellent communication, leadership, and strategic planning skills


Desirable

Chartered status with a recognised professional body

Postgraduate qualification in Building Services, Project Management, or Sustainability

Training or experience in digital design, BIM management, or innovative MEP technologies
