The Fehmarnbelt fixed link will comprise an 18 km immersed tunnel between R\u00f8dbyhavn on Lolland and Puttgarden on the German island of Fehmarn. In addition is the upgrading of the rail line between R\u00f8dbyhavn and Ringsted, which will be expanded by two electrified rail tracks allowing for speeds of up to 200 km\/h. With the Fehmarnbelt link, travel time between Copenhagen and Hamburg will be reduced by around 2.5 hours. Both the immersed tunnel and the upgrading of the Danish landworks will be financed by users of the fixed link. The Construction Act means that the state-owned companies, Femern A\/S and A\/S Femern Landanl\u00e6g are authorised to construct and operate a fixed link across the Fehmarnbelt and associated landworks in Denmark respectively.
