Portuguese trade unions staged one-day strike against austerity

Portuguese trade unions held a one day strike on Thursday, protesting the unyielding austerity measures forced on them by the government. Public transport came to a halt in most regions, refuse collection stopped in many cities and the state-owned airline TAP warned of some disruption.
