Euro area has 12.1% unemployment rate in June 2013

Eurostat released figures this week showing a seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in the euro area of 12.1% in June 2013, while the unemployment rate in the E27 was 10.9%. In comparison with May of this year, the EA17 rate of unemployment remained stable, while the EU27 rate dropped by 0.1%. However, comparing these figures to June2012 in both the EA17 and the EU27, the unemployment rate rose by 0.7% and 0.4% respectively.
The European Union statistic office estimates that 26.424 million men and women in the EU27, with 19.266 million of those people were in the euro area were unemployed in June of this year. Austria (4.6%), Germany (5.4%) and Luxembourg (5.7%) had the lowest unemployment rates among the member states. The highest unemployment rates were recorded in Greece (26.9% in April 2013) and Spain (26.3%). Read More
